Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director Austin Eguavoen confirmed on Monday that Head Coach Finidi George has approved a significant tactical overhaul for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.
The new 4-2-3-1 system will see Victor Osimhen spearhead the attack, supported by a creative trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon operating behind him. Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi will form a double pivot protecting the backline.
"We have thoroughly analysed our AFCON 2024 campaign and identified clear areas for tactical improvement. The 4-2-3-1 gives us better balance between defensive security and attacking fluency," Finidi said at the NFF Technical Committee briefing in Lagos.
Nigeria's upcoming qualifiers include a home fixture against Rwanda on June 14 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, followed by an away game against Zimbabwe on June 18 in Harare.
The Super Eagles are currently second in Group C of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers with six points from four matches, one point behind leaders Rwanda.
