The Defence Headquarters confirmed that 312 Boko Haram-affiliated fighters and their families — 847 persons total — voluntarily surrendered to Army troops of the 7 Division at Monguno in Borno State, the largest single-day surrender since Operation HADIN KAI commenced.
The surrendered group includes 186 active fighters, 68 women, 58 children, and 35 non-combatant males. All have been transferred to the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Programme at Bulumkutu facility in Maiduguri.
Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja attributed the mass surrender to "sustained kinetic and non-kinetic operations which have decimated insurgent operational capacity and morale."
A mid-level ISWAP commander identified as Mallam Bulama is expected to provide intelligence on remaining ISWAP camps in the Lake Chad Basin. UN humanitarian agencies are providing medical, food and psychosocial support to women and children in the group.
